2018 Home Renovation New Year's Resolutions
With all the New Year’s resolution posts flying around about travel and weight loss, we thought we’d share some of our favorite goals that are a little close to home. Namely to your home. The following tips will help you renovate like a boss in 2018.
1. Give an Accent Wall Some Personality
In the grand scheme of things, painting an accent wall doesn’t cost a whole lot. It take a lot of time. Nor does it greatly invade your personal space. What an accent wall does do, is change things up. It delivers a bright pop of color that can re-make a room.
In 2018, bring a little something-something to your home with a freshly painted accent wall. Don’t be afraid to go big and bold on the color front. Because if you want to try a different color or go back to the original, it doesn’t require lots of work.
2. Create a Living Room You Actually Use
What is it with stuffy, uncomfortable living rooms folks seem to rarely (if ever) use? What a waste of space! In 2018, create a living room you actually use. Add layers of lighting. Make sure there’s plenty of air flow so the space doesn’t smell stale.
Focus on comfortable furniture. Add fun elements, such as games or conversation pieces. And, make the layout easy to navigate by providing adequate space for traffic flow.
3. Love Mother Nature with Eco-Friendly Updates
Eco-friendly updates can be great for Mother Nature and for you. Simple energy saving solutions can help you improve the efficiency of your home. For instance, installing top-up bottom-down blinds can allow you to control the natural light within your home, while keeping the sun from overheating your living space.
You may also benefit from smart appliances, which use less energy to accomplish the same task. Smart home technology can also allow you to maximize your home’s efficiency, by letting you regulate the internal temperature, even when you’re away.
4. Fall in Love with Your Kitchen
The kitchen is the heart of your home. It’s typically the central gathering place for family dinners, celebratory parties, and intimate moments with your someone special. It should be a place you love. The ideal kitchen remodel offers the utmost in functionality – making it easy for you and others to navigate. It provides adequate prep space for everything from making cookies with grandkids to setting out appetizers. And, it has enough storage so that when you want to put everything away, there’s a place for each item!
5. Maximize Functionality with an Open Floor Plan
In a traditional floor plan rooms are divided by walls and doors. This causes family members to often be separated during tasks. With an open floor plan your family can spend more time together. This is particularly helpful for busy moms and dads who want to be productive while keeping an eye on the kids.
Open floor plans also allow you to maximize the natural light within your home. They are great for entertaining. And, they can typically be reconfigured as needed to provide the ultimate in functionality.
6. Create a Bathroom that Rejuvenates You
You work hard. You play hard. You deserve to relax easy. By treating yourself to a bathroom remodel, you can create a spa-like bathroom. Because you deserve a space to begin and end your day that rejuvenates you. Think of a spacious shower. Consider layers of light. Picture elegant tile details.
7. Expand Your Kitchen’s Storage Potential
Feel like cooking is a chore because there’s nowhere to store anything? Often, expanding your kitchen’s storage potential is as simple as replacing the cabinets. There have been a wide variety of advancements in features and accessories which allow you to maximize your storage potential. Some of the best kitchen storage ideas include modified lazy susans, pull out drawers, vertical dividers, and specialty spice racks.
8. Make Your Home a Place You Can Love for Generations
As you think about different home renovations and design trends, be sure to consider how long you plan to stay in your current home. There are a variety up easy updates you can make which will allow you to easily navigate your space even if and/or when your mobility begins to be impacted.
9. Extend Your Home Without Expanding Your Footprint
One of the biggest perks of living in Tucson is the amazing sunshine we have nearly 365 days a year. So, take advantage of it. By creating a comfortable and inviting space outside, you can effectively expand your home’s functional living space without extending the square footage.
10. Reduce Stress with Low Maintenance Materials
One of the biggest headaches of home ownership is maintenance. That’s why one of the first questions we ask clients is, “How much maintenance are you truly willing to do?” Because some materials require more regular upkeep than others. For instance, wood block or porcelain counters need to be sealed and treated regularly. Are you up for that?
11. Spend Time ENJOYING Your Home!
Finally, spend some time really enjoying your home. It’s sooo easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that we can quickly lose sight of what’s important. Plan some quality time with your loved ones. And, schedule in some relaxing time for you.
