Home Tips to Making Your Closet Shine!

It’s time to talk about everyone’s little secret. While the rest of the home may be glamorous, there sits a door that is forever closed when guests come for a tour. There’s a place for everything and everything in its place for the rest of your room, but that doesn’t hold true for what lies in your closet.

Depending on how many unwanted Christmas gifts you’ve been hiding on your reluctance for getting rid of those old jeans, tackling your closet could be one of your biggest DIY projects, but these eight steps can make it just as beautiful as the rest of your home.

Step 1. Empty your closet. Seriously, everything should come out.

Step 2. Divide your closet contents into three piles: haven’t worn in two years, junk/seriously out of style, and can’t live without.

Step 3. Look through the first two piles for items in good enough shape for someone else to use and donate them.

Step 4. Throw away the rest of the first two piles.

Step 5. Scrub your closet from the baseboards to the ceiling to remove grime, stains, and mildew.

Step 6. Paint the walls to give your closet a fresh look you’ll want to show off.

Step 7. Install new shelves such as a durable medium-density fiberboard and a chrome rod that won’t bend as easily as the wooden pole.

Step 8. Put everything from the last pile of clothes you wear all the time back in the closet, but use an organization system this time and stick to it.
