Long-Distance Remodeling: How Does It Work?

You live in Colorado and have a home in Tucson. How then, does this whole remodeling this work? With today’s technology, remodeling your home long-distance can actually be quite enjoyable.

Because you have the ability to be removed and yet present. This gives you the emotional freedom to participate as much or as little as you’d like. (If you trust your contractor, of course!)

We’ve worked with numerous clients over the years. The process was different with each homeowner. Because no two projects or individuals have been exactly alike. This is often the case when you’re doing an ultra-customized update.

However, there are some tips and tools we’ve found help the long-distance remodel go smoothly:

Discuss How You Want to Use Your Home During Your Initial Meeting

We believe the initial meeting with every contractor should begin with a conversation about your wants and needs. What function do you want your home to serve?

Eventually, we also talk about what you want your home to look like. But this comes second. Because a beautiful update that’s not functional might look great in a magazine, but it’s not so great as a place to live day-to-day. This is your home. It should be a place you love spending time.

Establish Clear Lines of Communication

Like I said above, with today’s technology, you can almost be on site – even when you’re vacationing in Europe! From email and phone calls to photos and FaceTime, you can be as present in the remodel as you want to be.

The key is to establish clear lines of communication. You want to talk with your design and remodel company about how frequently you want an update. And, that level of communication might change as the job progresses. That’s totally fine. Just let them know.

Consider a Site Visit Occasionally

Some of our long-distance clients like to visit from time to time during the remodel process. This is fabulous! We love the opportunity to connect with you face-to-face and show you how your house is becoming a home you’ll love.

Some of our clients are very hands-off. They trust us to select beautiful fixtures and colors. If that’s you – awesome! Our designers do an amazing job. Other clients want to be involved in selecting things like the tile and sinks. We love that too!

You can certainly pick fixtures while you’re out of town. However, when you’re here, we can tour the house, get a sense of the space, and then go to the showrooms with you.
